The golden toad of banghai opera is an ancient Chinese folklore, which comes from the allusions of Taoism. 

There is a golden toad in the towel gourd well in Changde city, often spitting a white light from the wellhead at night, straight into the sky, youdao people can take advantage of this white light to ascend to the immortal. 

Bangs, a young man who lives by the well, is poor, kind, and filial to his mother; he often goes to the nearby mountains to cut firewood, sell firewood and buy rice, and depend on his mother. 

One day, a fox in the mountain forest became refined and transformed into a beautiful and handsome girl, Shiu-Ying Hu, who stopped the bangs' return and asked to marry him. 

After marriage, Shiu-Ying Hu wanted to help Liu Hai to reach the sky, spitting a white bead at his mouth, making bait for bangs and fishing in the loofah well. 

The golden toad bitten and fished, and the bangs rode on the toad's back, jumped, feathered and went away. 

In order to commemorate the filial piety of bangs, later generations built Toad Spring Temple beside the loofah well to provide bangs statues.
